The company
Cafés Aguayo, with a staff of eight workers, is still defined as a family business and according to Manuel Pérez, Commrecial Director and son in law of the founder, the secret of the brand is in "maintaining the tradition of forty years and competing in quality and price by using the best raw material."
Juan Aguayo Quintanilla was born in Villanueva de Mesía but when he was very young moved to Alhama de Granada where he started working as a salesman and representative in the food industry. Even though they were difficult years, thanks to his capacity for work and personal qualities he came to count upon an important number of clients and his ow well stocked warehouse. To enable his daughters to go to University he decided to move to Granada; and this is how in 1966 in a central street of the capital of Granada, Cafés Aguayo, a coffee roasting business was born.
Little by little the, initial project was consolidate, getting to the point where it had to move to Belicena where they set up a "tostadero" (roasting factory) equipped with the most up to date machinery making it a structurally sound and technologically competitive"tostadero", always staying with Columbian coffee, as it is the only one that contains the three essential factors of good coffee: aroma, strength and quality. Since then, its important client portfolio has been mainly spread between Granada and Jaén In 1993 the business transformed into a limited company, without losing its family roots, as even though the founder retired he continues to keep a watchful eye on his daughter María José, who, after finishing a degree in Economic Science and Business, became the manager of Cafés Aguayo LTD.
Given the excellent quality of the machinery they continue to use the natural roaster that can roast up to 250 kilogrammes per hour; the roasting machine with a capacity of 300 kilogrammes per hour and the packing machine that can reach up to 700 kilogrammes per hour.
To expand these installations and improve the storage conditions of the raw material, four years ago they built modern premises.
